EMDR therapy is designed to help people whose current difficulties are connected to earlier experiences — whether those experiences are clearly remembered or more subtly felt.
You do not need to have experienced a single “big” trauma for EMDR to be helpful. Many people benefit when patterns from the past continue to affect emotions, relationships, or self-beliefs in the present.
EMDR is an empowering, structured, evidence-based therapy for healing
emotional distress at its root. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t rely on analysing or discussing the past in great detail. It works by tapping into your own innate healing process.
By tapping into your brain’s own natural healing process, EMDR allows distressing memories to be ‘unstuck’ and processed in a healthier way. Many clients experience lasting shifts in just a few sessions — often faster than with traditional talk therapy.
Originally developed for trauma and PTSD, EMDR is now used to help with anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, and a wide range of emotional challenges which developed from specific distressing experiences.
EMDR is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), NICE (UK), and other global bodies for the treatment of PTSD and trauma.
You remain in control throughout, and the process is respectful, non-invasive, and deeply empowering.
Early experiences play a powerful role in shaping how we see ourselves and the world. EMDR can help with the lasting impact of experiences such as: • emotional neglect or inconsistent caregiving • bullying or social exclusion • feeling unsafe, unseen, or unsupported • growing up with conflict, instability, or emotional unavailability These experiences can contribute to low self-esteem, shame, anxiety, or difficulties in relationships later in life.
EMDR is widely recognised as an effective therapy for adult trauma, including: • accidents or injuries • medical or surgical trauma • bereavement or sudden loss • abusive or controlling relationships • workplace incidents or burnout • sudden or overwhelming life events Research consistently shows that EMDR can significantly reduce trauma symptoms and support long-term recovery.
EMDR may also be helpful for ongoing difficulties such as: • anxiety or panic • emotional reactivity or overwhelm • low mood or emotional numbness • shame or harsh self-criticism • persistent negative beliefs about oneself
